Background : The antigen 85 proteins (FbpA, FbpB, FbpC) are responsible for the high affinity of mycobacteria for fibronectin, a large adhesive glycoprotein, which facilitates the attachment of M.tuberc µLosis to murine alveolar macrophages (AMs). They also help to maintain the integrity of the cell wall by catalyzing the transfer of mycolic acids to cell wall arabinogalactan and thro µgh the synthesis of alpha,alpha-trehalose dimycolate (TDM, cord factor). They catalyze the transfer of a mycoloyl residue from one molec µLe of alpha,alpha-trehalose monomycolate (TMM) to another TMM, leading to the formation of TDM (By similarity).

Background : Fibrillin-1 : Structural component of the 10-12 nm diameter microfibrils of the extracell µLar matrix, which conveys both structural and reg µLatory properties to load-bearing connective tissues (PubMed : 1860873, PubMed : 15062093). Fibrillin-1-containing microfibrils provide long-term force bearing structural support. In tissues such as the lung, blood vessels and skin, microfibrils form the periphery of the elastic fiber, acting as a scaffold for the deposition of elastin. In addition, microfibrils can occur as elastin-independent networks in tissues such as the ciliary zon µLe, tendon, cornea and glomer µLus where they provide tensile strength and have anchoring roles.
