An Introduction to Blocking Peptides : A superior strategy for validation of antibody binding is the use of blocking peptides. In a Western Blotting assay, our blocking peptide was validated to block the signal of this antibody. This ensures the site-specificity of an antibody, including phosphor-antibodies. In the case of the phosphor- antibodies, the antibodies can and will only recognize the phosphorylated target protein at the corresponding site, not the non-phosphorylated target protein or target protein phosphorylated at a different site.

Background : The protein encoded by this gene is a reg µLatory subunit of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). AMPK is a heterotrimer consisting of an alpha catalytic subunit, and non-catalytic beta and gamma subunits. AMPK is an important energy-sensing enzyme that monitors cell µLar energy status. In response to cell µLar metabolic stresses, AMPK is activated, and thus phosphorylates and inactivates acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and beta-hydroxy beta-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR), key enzymes involved in reg µLating de novo biosynthesis of fatty acid and cholesterol. This subunit is one of the gamma reg µLatory subunits of AMPK. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been observed.
